Act 2 Blog Questions
1. What is your opinion of Hale’s questions to the Proctors? Do his methods of uncovering the devil’s work seem valid to you? Explain.
2. How do the lies that are spoken and the truth that is revealed in Act 2 compare with those of Act 1? How might truths and lies relate to the development of the play’s theme?
LABEL EACH ANSWER CLEARLY!!
1.I think that Hale is comeing to the Proctors sent from the court to find out more information on everything they are hearing about the Proctors. I think that some of them do work and some dont because he is believing the wrong person by accusing Elizabeth
ReplyDelete2.I think that they compare as they all have to do with witchcraft of course but one of the main truths that is revealed it that when John talked to Abigail he was alone with her and Elizabeth finds that out.
1. In my opinion I think that Hale's questions to the Proctors were very wrong. He was supposed to be there to warn the Proctors that Elizabeth's name had been mentioned in court, but he interrogated them about their religon instead. Hale's methods of uncovering the devil's work does not seem valid to me, because he really didn't have solid proof of witch craft. Hale asked John Proctor to name all ten commandments and because he couldn't remember one he took it as a sign of witch craft and because John don't go to church every Sunday.
ReplyDelete1. I think that Hales methods of revealing the devil within the family isnt very effective. He begins to badger them when he finds out that Proctor doesnt go to church on the sunday of the sabbeth day. Also keeps questioning the family when they deny any involvment with witchcraft.
ReplyDelete2. They compare because no actual evidence is used in any accusations, and for the court only spectral evidence was used and that type of evidence is not accurate at all because anyone could lie if they wanted to, to frame someone.
2. The lies in Act 1 and Act 2 compare, becaues all the talk about witchcraft are untrue. Rebecca Nurse is in jail because she was falsely accused of murder for the death of the Putnums babies. John lied to Elizabeth and said he talked to Abagail in a group but he lets it slip that they were alone. I think this is going to cause later on problems in the story. Also, Rev. Hale found the needle in the doll that Mary Warren gave Elizabeth. Elizabeth is being accused for Abagail getting stabbed in the stomach because the doll had a needle in it.
ReplyDelete1.)I think that hale's methods of uncovering the devil's work are not very valid. He really has no proof whatsoever. To him he thinks the proof is the doll with the needle and how john can't say all of his 10 commanments. In my opinion hale's questions to the proctor are very pointless.
ReplyDelete2.) In both acts one and two the lies that were spoken could compare because most of the lies had to do with witchcraft, but at the beginging of act two one truth we find out is that john was really with abigail alone instead of with other people.
i think that hales questions to the proctors was wrong, because he was supposed to come and warn the proctors about elizabeth being accused not ask them about their religion or why they hadnt came to church every sunday. I dont think his methods are accurate, because expecting someone to know the ten commandments and say them word for word doesnt prove that the person is a witch but i guess that back then everyone was expected to be able to quote the bible word for word.
ReplyDelete2. i think they are all compared because they all have to do with witchcraft. the main truth that came out in the play was that john proctor did talk to abigail in town alone with nobody there.
1. No they dont, Hale's methods consist of fanatical religious ramblings and accusations. They are shallow and pointless, virtually nothing more than hysteria. His claims tht the devil resides in Salem are based on nothing more than mass panic and suspicious behavior from a couple of teenaged girls.
ReplyDelete2. In act 2, Abigail lies and accuses Elizabeth of witchcraft in the form of a needle placed in a poppet given to her by Mary. Abigail simultaneously stabbed herself with a needle so that it would look as if Goody Proctor was the culprit. In Act 1, the lies of Abigail set up the premise for the entire plot.
1. He just went to find out some truth by himself, to see if the proctors wife was really a witch. He's methods are very inacurate because not everyone knows the commandments
ReplyDelete2. They are later on said as true.

1. Hale's questions to the Proctors were absolutley ridiculous. His methods were not valid, and they did not produce hard evidence against the Proctors. Many People can't recite the ten commandments so this shouldnt be taken as evidence of the devil's work.
ReplyDelete2. In act 2 the lies that these girls told in act 1 start to become more serious. In act 1 people were just being told on for witchcraft, but in act 2 these accusations become much more serious. The rest of this play is going to be controlled by these girls who can blurt out a name and have that person arested and possibly hanged!
1. I think that revern Hale shouldnt have went to the Proctors to question them i thought it was pointless for him to go and see if they could recite the commandments. I think is methods of uncovering the devils work was invalid becuase just being able to recite the commandments dosent mean anything. 2. In act 2 i thnk that the girls were more thought out about what they were going to say and do to make them seem more beleaveable of not being witchs. I think that the girls are going to be caught at all of their lies finally.
ReplyDelete2. In act one and act 2 the lies are all told for the same reasons. They are told to get Abigail and the other girls that are accusing people to get their way of taking over the whole town and having everyone believe them. Also, in both acts Abigail is accusing Elizabeth because she is in love with Proctor. Also the lies are being told to scare the town and make everyone believe that anyone can be a witch.
