1. Abigail. It makes me wonder why she does all this. Is it for John? Or for some other reason yet to be discovered? I want to know. For all I know, she wants to kill all the girls so she is the only one left. Thats my opinion.
ReplyDelete2. Its all bunched up. Nobody knows what to believe and are scared of what could be happening and over exaggerate. He makes it to where nobody, except the few actually know whats going on, and those few are taking advantage of it to their benifit. All about belief.
3. Yes. From how they act and how their beliefs are changed. I would think their a bunch of idiots trying to make others suffer, and its working.
1.Tituba got my sympathy the most after she got beat because she got accused of making the girls dance around the fire.
ReplyDelete2.The atmosphere to me feels like everyone is confused and worried about what is going on.
3.yes it is believable they are lieing to get out of trouble and blame others.
1)Elizabeth Proctor is the character that arouses my sympathy the most. She is not only being accused of being a witch but her husband also cheated on her.Elizabeth seems like a very nice lady but I don't understand why Abagail hates her so much and wants her to die. I would feel terrible if I knew that my husband had been with the girl that hates me so much.
ReplyDelete2)The overall moos of Act 1 is chaotic. Everyone is going crazy because the girls were caught dancing in the woods and then everyone is terrified because two little girls won't wake up. Miller uses screaming and yelling to create this atmosphere. The characters over exagerate to make everything more chaotic. Miller also involves many people in a room to create more disorder. When they are trying to wake Betty they had all the girls in the room which made the situation more chaotic. All of them started screaming and yelling all at the same time.
3)Miller's portrayal of teenage girls and their behavior is believable because most are dramatic, liars, and backstabbers. Miller shows how teenage girls are dramatic because the girls freak out over the smallest things. Just like in the play, teenage girls will lie about almost anything to save themselves from trouble. There also girls like Abagail who will hold things over your head and will turn their back on you as soon as they need to. They may seem like they're your best friend one minute and then start spreading rumors behind your back the next.
1. The one i feel more sympathy for was Abigail becase she is still in love with John and she thinks she will have him all for herself. The truth is that shes really not going to have him all for herself since he is with Elizabeth.
ReplyDelete2. I would say that the overall mood there would be confused, scared, and also worried at the same time. The technique he uses would be the fact that they would all go to church all worried talking about the same thing over and over.
3. I would say that the way the teens act would be believable because many teens do lie to get out of trouble and get other teens into trouble.
1.tituba and sarah good and elizabeth have my sympathy because theyve all been accused without much chance to defend theirselves. Especially elizabeth because of her paranoia and the fear of abigail's grudge trying to destroy her family.
ReplyDelete2. The atmosphere in Act 1 is Secrets. everyone is holding something in order to save theirselves. In the end it all goes down to Abigail.
3. It is believable because theyre all in a group trying to hide their fears by pointing fingers towards other people...a sign of panic.
1.I have the most sympathy for Elisibeth Proctor. This is because she is getting accused by Abigail for no other reason than she is just John Proctors wife. Abigail hates Elisibeth for this because she is in love with John and to Abigail, Elisibeth is in the way. Therefore Abigail wants Elisibeth dead so that she can be with John. She automaticaly assumes that once Elisibeth is gone John will fall in love with her.
ReplyDelete2. The overall atmospere of act one is agitated. The atmospere became clear when Reverend paris found the girls dancing in the woods and mary and betty will not wake. This incident starts to raise questions in the town about what might be causeing this. In this confusion everyone starts running around accusing innocent people. The techniques miller uses to create this agitated atmospher are scenes of the little girls screaming. Also the scenes of everyone yelling at one another because they are confused and worried about what is happening.
3.Yes this behavior is belevable because all of these girls have lived a life with strict rules. Since they have grown up in such a strict society they have never really experienced freedom so when they finally have a taste of freedom they go crazy with it. Their behavior is also believable because they acted like teenagers would today playing around saying they were controlled by the devil. Im not saying that teenagers today go and drink chichen blood and accuse people of being with the devel but their behavior is similar
1. i feel the most sympathy for tituba because she had to get the beating for what the girls did and had to confess to witchcraft.

3.yes it is beilevable because the girls are a bunch of teenagers getting caught and trying to blame some one else for there actions.
1. I feel more sympathy for mary because she is being forced by abigail to say what she wants because abigail has threatend the girls to not say anything or she will kill them.
ReplyDelete2.the overall mood of act one is panic because the two girls will not wake up,miller creates this atmosphere by using his words to create panic in the story.
3.the behavior of the teenage girls is beliveable because of the way the girls act when they are asked what they were doing in the wood around a fire and why they were dancing

ReplyDelete2. Its a big drama scene no one really knows who to believe they just trying to get at someone they didnt like or just trying to save themselfs
3 i strongly believe that they are lieing and not telling the truth
1) Elizabeth Proctor. She has been cheated on, lied to, and now accused.. For what i know, she hasn't done anything to deserve this.
ReplyDelete2) Insane would be the only proper word... Miller uses the girls and tituba to cause chaos throughout the town. Using dancing girls casting spells, drinking blood, and 2 girls in a deep sleep can cause a lot of drama.
3) Yes, not everyone would act that way. but i know many girls who take the easier path and let others suffer so they won't hav to.
1) I give my sympathy to Tituba and Elizabeth. I feel sorry for Tituba because she was falsly accused of witchcraft, which in my opinion is wrong of the girls to do and it got Tituba in alot of trouble and she was beat. They could have got her killed for the false accusing. I feel sorry for Elizabeth because she was the one who got a "spell" put on her which i think is unreasonable. Just because Abigail is jealous of Elizabeth for being with John doesnt mean that she should die its obvious that John loves Elizabeth and doesnt want to be with a teenager.
ReplyDelete2) I think that the atmosphere is twisted all these people are doing is being selfish and thinking only of theirselves. They dont care how much it could get other people in trouble as long as they get away with what they did they would watch innocent people be beatin and die. So Miller used a very twisted setting to create the atomosphere.
3) Yes the portrayal of teenage girls and their behavior is true teenage girls are really conceited and dont care what it takes to keep out of trouble im not saying all girls are like that but many of them are. Expecially when it comes to the guys they like and want to be with they would do anything just to get him. Another thing is that in my opinion he should have put is that men are just as bad if not they are worse but its true about the girls in that act.
1. My sympathy was for Tituba, because she made all the girls well force the girls to go dance all crazy around the fire.
ReplyDelete2. I think the mood for all this could be scared and crazy, because they try have fun in any way or form, there belivers in god,so the only way they could acomplish there belives..
3.I think there lieing to much to be able and safe there self from all the trouble they coused and blame other people.
1. The character that I feel most sympathetic for is Tituba and elizabeth. I have sympathy for Tituba because she was falsly accused of participating in witchcraft and took a beating. I also feel sorry for Elizabeth because of the affair her husband had.
ReplyDelete2. I think the overall atmosphere in act 1 is kind of tense, and scary. I know if i saw a group of women running around a fire yelling spells, and chopping off a chickens head i would be scared. Techniques Miller used, were screaming, and lying. The people of Salem don't know who's lying or who's telling the truth about what's happening.
3. Yes, i do think that Miller's portrayal of teenage girls and their behavior believable because they lie to get what they want, and to stay out of trouble.

ReplyDeleteI feel the most sympathy for Abigail because she strikes Betty across the face and warns the other girls to confess only that they danced and that Tituba conjured Ruth’s dead sisters. She threatens to kill them if they breathe a word about the other things that they did.
2....*
I think the overall atmosphere in act 1 is scary because abigail, Betty, and several other girls were dancing in the forest in the middle of the night with his slave.I felt more scary when tituba was intoning unintelligible words and waving her arms over a fire.
3....*
I think Miller's portrayal of teenage girls and their behavior is believable because they are dramatics. They are acting like inocents.
1. The characters that "arouse my sympathy" the most are all of the accused characters. The group of girls have real power in the town, and nobody has been able to go against their word, as if they are the holy judges, and their word is law, when actually they just happen to out of nowhere be able to see everybodies evil spirits and are all hurt int he same way at the same time. But, for some reason, everybody just goes by their word, and the accused basically haven no chance of stopping them.
ReplyDelete2. The overall atmosphere or mood of Act I is hysteria running rampant through the streets of Salem. Some techniques that Miller uses to create this atmosphere is through dialogue that makes everybody frantically trying to keep from being accused. He has everybody act as if there really was the devil causing mayhem in Salem. (I'm having a bit of trouble trying to explain the mood. I can feel it, but I can't figure out how to put it into words.)
3. Millers portrayal is very believable, because the natural tendency for humans is to think something wasnt your fault and to blame others, especially teenagers. And the fact that they were girls makes them all want to try to keep from getting in trouble. All the accusations were started from drama. Girls have a natural tendency to talk. And when girls talk, they tell other girls, and they either exaggerate or leave out some part, which will start drama, and gossip. No offense to females, because they are not all like that, but most do.
1. The character that arouses my sympathy the most is Abigail because she is in love with a man she won't be able to have a future with.
ReplyDelete2. The overall mood of Act 1 is scared and helpless. The people are so afraid of witches, and there is no way to provide real evidence of witchcraft; this is what drives all of the people mad.
3. I think that back then, the drama that goes on in this story wouldn't have happened because they had totally different views on life.
1.the character that arouses my sympathy is titchuba since she is a slave and has no rights to defend her self
ReplyDelete2.the overall mood of act one is fear, i think the dialogue that miller uses and just the fact tha A)its the deviel and B)salem is super religouis would creat fear
3.yes, teenagers in genaral not just the females will try and lie to stay out of trouble
