the character that i feel sorry for is tituba because she looks and seems really nice. She looks like a woman who is just working to survive. I feel more sorry for her when they pull her out her house and start whipping her. She looks like she is in pain. I would confess to something i did not do,so they could stop beating me. So yes i feel sorry for her. i dont like the girls they are ugly and evil!!!!

i think the mood of act one is a sad. People are being accused of things that are not true. Its causing problems in the town and its just sad to be accussed of something that u did not do. if u know that u have loved god all your life and now they are accussing of been with the devil which is the opposite of what u have always believe in.

  4. 1) Elizabeth arouses my sympathy the most in the play because she is be taken away and charged for a crime she didnt even come close to doing because crazy fricken abigale is a freak and set her up for it. Shes the victim here and is being charged for the crime.

    2) The over all atmosphere or mood of act 1 is Tension. Everybody is runnin around going crazy thinking that the devil has set loose in salem and is posessing the girls. So everyone is trying to figure out whats going on and its all just a mess. Miller uses the tension technique... He really just sets the modd for everyone to be all tense and crazy which gives that mood for the whole act.

3)Yes very believable.. Because in the movie most of the girls look like demon posessed and everything.

  5. 1. In act one Tituba was the character that gainged my simpathy she was the first to be accused of being a witch and was beaten until she confessed to it even though she was not guilty.

    2. The over all mood is fear. The people of Salem fear that the devil is amoung them.

    3. The portayal of teenage girls is very believable because teenage girls often do things to gain attention.

yes i think that millers portrayal of the teenage girls are very easy to fall for. it just seems to real. I think that it would be really hard for me to fake something for that long and seen people dying because of me. I could not live with it. im really tricky but i could not fake something like that for so long. so yes they girls did a really good job of faking i would have fallen for them, they seem to know what they wanted and how they had to accomplish them.

  8. 1.The Characters that i give my sympathy to are the men and women that are getting falsely accused of using witchraft. Tituba seemed like a very nice women and Abigail threw her under the bus to save herself from her own wrong doings. Also, the girls that were threatened by Abigail to keep quiet partially have my sympathy. I understand why they were afraid to tell people about what they did in fear of Abigail killing them, but the fact that none of them stood up for Tituba kind of angered me because they let an innocent woman "confess" to the accussations.
2.The overall atmosphere in Act 1 is a scared, groggy but at the same time upbeat feeling. There's a lot of stuff going on; Fingers are getting pointed every which way.

  9. 1. The person i give the most sympathy to is Tituba, she is beat and yelled at to confess for something she did not do, and is made seem like a witch when in reality she is not, just to save her self from being hanged.

  10. #1 THe character that I have the most sympathy for is Elizabeth Proctor. This reason is because her being a good, and loyal wife she did not deserve to be cheated on. Why Jhon had affairs with young Abigail, I do not know. Adding to being hurt by her husband she is accused of witch craft by a little girl that wants her man.

  11. 2. in the very beginning,it allows the viewer to see that something secreative is going on, and that theses girls are sneaking of to do something they shouldnt. so secreative, and mysterious.

    3. its believable, very believable because these young women are puritans anything out of the norm puritan like is strictly looked down upon, so they must lie. and they continue to do so for some attention and self gain. which is common for teenage girls to do.

  12. #2 Honestly the atmosphere was in a tragic, lying enviorment that needs to be blessed. People beleive everything especially those tricky females. The technicques Miller use was idk just was lame.If you ask me they need to work on their disciplin. And thats real spit. :!

  13. 1). I feel sorry for the girls following Abigail the most. She threatens to hurt them if they don't follow her so its kind of like they are under peer pressure. They are having to do stuff they don't really want to do.
2). The overall mood is suspense. You never know whats going to happen and you have idead in your head of what you think will happen. He uses music and the Character lines to set this mood.
3). Yes. Because they act like foolish teenagers that want attention and i can feel the emotion they portray in their scene.

  14. 1.My sympathy goes out to tituba because she gets accused of the "witchcraft" that went on in the woods. When she gets beat she feels forced to lie about something she never did. Also the girls that get threatened by abigail because if they say anything that happened abigail will go to their house and stab them. Thats scary to go through but they still should of told the truth to save eachother and tituba
2.The overall mood of act 1 was pressured. i think that when they were found in the woods and when they beat tituba and abigail threatens them the girls feel pressured and intimidated to say the truth. miller uses a nice technique bc he lets everything get caught and everyone is worried about the accussations and what might happen next the town is going crazy!!

  15. 2) continued..I think that Miller uses anticipation, fast paced events and sad moments to bring out the overall atmosphere of Act one.
3)In my opinion Miller's portrayal of the girls behaviors is not believable. I think that the girls are over acting and they are making things too obvious. I think that if they didn't acuse people for some of the same things and outrageous things then they would be more believable.
